
Conductor, pianist, and organist Shawn Grenke serves as Director of Music at Eglinton St. George’s United Church in Toronto, Collaborative Pianist with the Elmer Iseler Singers, Artistic Director and Conductor of the 80-voice Achill Choral Society in Orangeville, Ontario, and Instructor of Conducting at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario. In Summer 2026, he will also assume the role of Artistic Director and Conductor of the 130-voice Peterborough Singers.
A native of Belleville, Ontario, Grenke began his musical training as a chorister and pianist with the Hastings County Board of Education Concert Choir under the direction of the late Rudolf Heijdens. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Mount Allison University (New Brunswick) and a Master of Music degree from the University of Toronto.
Grenke has appeared in concert throughout Canada, the United States, and Europe, including performances in Poland and South Korea. He has participated in several international choral festivals and competitions, including Let the Future Sing (Sweden), the Xinghai Choral Competition (China), and Le Mondial Choral Loto-Québec World Choral Competition (Laval, Québec). His performance engagements have also included appearances at Roy Thomson Hall (Toronto), the Winspear Centre (Edmonton), and broadcasts on CBC Radio, as well as numerous concert series and festivals internationally.
Grenke is currently a doctoral candidate (ABD) in Choral Conducting at the University of Alberta. His doctoral research focuses on a collaborative choral commission with composer Andrew Balfour. In support of this research, he was awarded a SSHRC Fellowship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.
His academic distinctions also include the Alberta Graduate Excellence Scholarship, the Opera Edmonton Assistantship Award, and the Centennial Bursary Fund Award. During his time in Alberta, Grenke served as Artist-in-Residence at St. George’s Anglican Church and as a Teaching Assistant with the University of Alberta’s Opera Program.
